Foundation Relations Associate/Grant Writer 

Background

The Kirk Gibson Foundation, whose mission is to improve the quality of life of those living with Parkinson’s through the development and delivery of activity-based programs, has recently opened the Kirk Gibson Center for Parkinson’s Wellness in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Funded and supported by the Foundation, the Center is the first of its kind in the state to offer daily programs and activities free of charge to people living with Parkinson’s disease, and their care partners. The Center also serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration to those battling the disease and will build a community of support and compassion while researching and developing better movement-based programs.

Position Summary

The Foundation Relations Associate plays a critical role in advancing the organization’s fundraising efforts by researching, writing, and managing all grant proposals. This role is responsible for securing funding from foundations and government sources to advance the organization’s programs and impact.

Essential Functions

Reporting Structure
  • This role will report to the Chief Development Officer

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission and programs
  • Write, edit, and submit compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather data, stories, and outcomes for proposals
  • Maintain a grant calendar to track deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with grant guidelines and funder requirements
  • Prepare grant budgets in coordination with finance staff
  • Track and report on grant outcomes and impact metrics
  • Maintain accurate records of submissions, awards, and funder communications

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience in nonprofit grant writing.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Ability to translate program data into compelling narratives
  • Excellent research and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with grant databases and funding sources
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Work Schedule and Compensation:
  • Part-time (10–20 hours per week, flexible schedule)
  • Remote or hybrid (depending on organization needs)
  • Compensation: $25–$45/hour, negotiable based on experience
